Mike Carswell is a professional coppice worker originally from Conlig, North Down.
After graduating from the Bill Hogarth Memorial Apprenticeship Scheme in Cumbria, he went on the set up his own urban coppicing business in Manchester.
He now supplies traditional and contemporary products to people all over Greater Manchester and beyond with wood harvested from urban woodland sites that lie within the M60 ring road.
Spoon carving is an ancient and traditional craft.
On this course you will learn all of the skills needed in order to feel confident in your ability to make your own wooden utensils. Wood selection, axe-work, knife grips, cutting techniques, tool safety and maintenance will all be covered. You will have the chance to practice each step until you feel comfortable, and leave with the satisfaction of having learned an important skill for life.
